I am Alyssum Pilato. I was born in
1975 and grew up in Pennsylvania. As a young child I was introduced
to art by my mother, who is also an artist. Throughout high
school I would escape into my art, sketching portraits of
the beautiful faces that stared out at me from the pages of
magazines. Shortly after finishing high school I married my
husband, a bronze sculptor. The years that followed I worked
aside him, modeling for him, making rubber molds, welding
wax, and creating bronze sculptures. All the while I sketched
our life. We now have two children and live in Halcottsville,
New York. I am still escaping into my art, jumping into my
car with a canvas, some brushes and a jumbled pile of oils
in search of my next painting.

One
thing that has always been constant in my life has been art.
Whether I was creating it, helping someone else create it, looking
at it, or living it. I have never been traditionally schooled
in art. Everything I have learned about art has been from the
act of doing it, looking at it, and excited late night discussions.
I have always been driven by a feverish need to capture moods
that move me. I have been continuously inspired by the rawness
of the Catskills. Since I have moved to the area in 2001, I
have been painting the beautiful buildings and town scenes trying
to capture those moods that inspire me.
